Recently, I have been reading a lot about eShakti, a clothing company that is based in India. A number of bloggers have reviewed the site ( many of whom received clothing items to review) and the majority were highly praising the company. One of the reasons is that eShakti allows you to customize your clothing to not only fit your unique body type and size, but also to let you alter the actual design of items: you can make dresses longer or shorter, neck lines V neck or boat neck, add sleeves to a sleeveless dress, etc.
This last part impressed me a lot, namely because as a traveler, I go to temples and other holy places where there are certain dress codes ( ie covering my hair if I go to a mosque, covering my shoulders if I go to Big Buddha here in Phuket). I remember very vividly in Korea when I was told off for wearing a dress that showed my shoulders. This was a big no no, apparently. In fact in the dead of summer I would be asked if I was cold when I was a tank top ( and it was around 90). I began to wonder how I could find clothing that matched my style but was a little more conservative. To top it off, I breast feed and need to wear V necks as it makes it easier. eShakti takes care of that for me…although sadly they don’t ship here ( US only).I think the idea of adding sleeves and such is also fantastic for people who see say a short sleeved dress but they live in a cold climate and want to add sleeves, or the reverse. It makes it really easy, and the customization is free!
The one downside to eShakti that I have noticed is their customer service. I wrote to them three times, and to two different email addresses and never heard back. This irritated me as I had a few questions about the company that I wanted to have answered before I wrote this, but it’s been a week and no word whatsoever. After a family member placed an order, they got an automated email from ‘Gina’, but never got an update on the status of their purchase. They logged into their account and it still says NOT SHIPPED but doesn’t say anything else, ie if it was being processed.
If eshakti works out this flaw, I think the company has a lot to offer travel style enthusiasts and women who want to have customized clothing that suits their needs.
