Phuket Town is mesmerizing for many reasons: the architecture, the Hokkien culture, the street stalls with neon lights. And amidst these ordinary wonders are a slew of Phuket’s painters, displaying their original works in open studios, begging to be visited by the throngs of tourists that walk outside them during high season.
Yesterday evening we had the joy of visiting Wua Art Galleryand meeting Zentral and his family. Zen is not only a sought after painter ( he has works in galleries throughout Europe and Asia) but he and his wife Pui are one of only around 15 Thai families in Phuket who homeschool. Their daughter Dina has an incredible life, living in a stunning townhouse and art gallery and painting with her family all day long.
Zentral’s paintings leave an impression on visitors. The minimalist style and texture came out his love with art. Several of his paintings feature men who appear deep in thought, provoking one to wonder what exactly they are pondering. We fell in love with several of his works, including this little one of a teddy bear, painted on cardboard.
Wua Art Gallery is a must see for anyone visiting the island. To find the studio, visit their website
