Looking Forward to a Cozy Winter!

Halloween came and went, and all was well here in Phuket! Alas, we wanted to do more, possibly go trick or treating or something more festive. Instead we had a small family Halloween party and watched our favorite Halloween movies!
It had been a long month. Billy had decided to work an additional month ( which turned out to be a mistake, in some respects) and his schedule was extremely busy. When his final day arrived, he parted with the school and ended that chapter of his life.
However, his replacement soon became absent and the school let us know they needed a new teacher ASAP…and of course were wondering if Billy wanted to continue working.
So a choice had to be made: stay until March or leave now.
The answer was obvious from him: he wanted to  move to Scotland now and spend the holidays there,
snuggled up and wearing some UGGs and drinking hot cocoa by a fire.
This is something we have been craving for a while now, and when our friend Richard elaborated on
how lovely Scotland is in winter ( he too painted the same fireside picture…)
we were sold on leaving before Christmas.
In many respects it would be better for us to stay until March, even if we moved to Chiang Mai.
First of all our pets would be ready by then, which would save us finding a house sitter.
Second, it would save us the price of airfare.
Many digital entrepreneurs building their businesses move to Thailand ( specifically Chiang Mai and Krabi)
We have a few friends here right now doing this, and we thought that staying here would be good because of our budget.
But….we found a house in the perfect, picturesque Black Isle that absolutely called to us.
It’s furnished, looks out onto the firth, and is HUGE.
Additionally, we wouldn’t need a car so it would save us a lot on petrol.
The owner had actually contacted me after I placed an add on Gumtree, requesting suggestions on
a pet friendly long term rental in the Highlands.
It all fit in place with what we were looking for. The village, Cromarty, seems friendly and has an arts trust.
It’s also close to Inverness, in case we need to pop over for groceries or a meeting or whatnot.
We will all miss so many things about Thailand that there will be a lingering thought in our minds:
should we have stayed??
But we will never know the answer to this question.
Quite possibly the answer would be yes, but in our hearts after contemplating on the decision,
we both feel it is best for all of us to move on with our journeys and begin our exploration of Scotland,
expand our family and continue growing our homesteading skills.
I really look forward to a cozy winter, and hope we get one!!

  1. yay, yay, yay!!! so happy for you!

  2. On my first date with my husband, we talked about how we both wanted to go to Scotland sometime in our lives.

On our third date, he had already bought tickets, and we ditched dinner, made a frozen pizza and planned where we were going to do, and went just after Christmas.

    You’ll have a great time!
